HISTORICAL NOTES Canadian Atlantic Railway   Not to be confused with the "Dominion Atlantic", the CAR was a division of CP Rail and the DAR was a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Limited. That is the only link between the two. The CAR was the old CPR Atlantic Division mainline east from Sherbrooke, Quebec, through the State of Maine, and into the Province of New Brunswick. Today, what was the CAR is now the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway (owned by RailWorld, LLC,) and the New Brunswick Southern Railway (owned by the Irving Group). The MM&A name was created by taking the names, Montreal & Atlantic, and International Railway of Maine, and combining them.
