TrainResource.com Historical Notes.

Our models are almost identical to the prototype. These cars were intended for potato shipments in the winter and paper shipments in the summer months. They had charcoal heaters mounted underneath to keep the potatoes from freezing in the winter. The smooth-fitting plug-door made it easier to load more rolls of paper without damage in transit. Originally delivered in the "State of Maine" scheme, several of the cars were repainted as we have recreated here, with the large red, white, and blue Bangor and Aroostook flag herald.
